Tips On Storing Your Shoes Properly At Home

Posted on11/03/2022
Some of us enjoy buying beautiful shoes that complement our outfits, while others prefer to buy shoes that provide additional comfort and support while walking. Regardless of your purpose, properly fitting shoes are essential for your safety and postural health.

To ensure that your shoe lasts as long as possible, it is critical that you store them properly so that they do not become damaged or out of shape. Today, we’ll show you how to store your shoes properly at home.

1. Store your shoes in shoe cabinets

It may be convenient to simply chuck your shoes on the floor whenever you get home, but doing so makes them more difficult to find and more vulnerable to damage when they're piled on top of each other. Rather, invest in proper shoe cabinets or shoe racks to neatly organise your shoes and avoid leaving them all over the floor.

2. Sort shoes according to categories

Sorting your shoes by category and length can help you devise a more efficient storage system to safely store all your shoes without any of them crushing another pair. Especially for ladies with a variety of shoes, such as ankle boots, heeled sandals, and flats, sorting them out will make your shoe cabinet appear neater. You’ll also have an easier time locating the shoe you want to wear.

3. Store shoes in the ideal condition

High temperatures and humidity levels can make leather brittle, weaken fabrics and cause glues to loosen, leaving you with shoes that cannot be worn out. This is why shoes have to be stored in climate-controlled conditions.

Aside from the condition of your shoes, storing them in hot and humid shoe cabinets with no ventilation will allow bacteria to grow and cause your shoes to stink. Always keep your shoes in a cool, dry place and use silica gel packets to absorb moisture.

Although shoe racks are great for ventilation, dust can easily accumulate on your shoes. Hence, you should always dust your shoes and keep them away from direct sunlight.

4. Clean shoes before storing them away

Always clean your shoes first before storing them away because dirt and debris can cause fading or warping, and bacteria and germs can live on them, causing health problems in the long run. Shoe trees can also be added to your shoes to help keep them in shape.

5. Organise your shoes neatly

Even in shoe cabinets, some people prefer to stack multiple shoes on top of each other on each shelf to maximise space. That is not good for your shoes. Shoes should be neatly stored in your shoe cabinet, with none of them stacked on top of another, as this can cause damage and make your shoes even dirtier. It will also make it more difficult for you to find your shoes.

If you have heeled shoes or high top sneakers to store, consider getting shoe cabinets with slanted shelves. The slanted shelves allow you to neatly store these types of shoes without crushing the tops.

Although shoes protect us as we go about our daily lives, they are rather delicate items that require tender loving care in order to serve us well. Store them in proper shoe cabinets to prolong their lifespan.
